Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year was my second year as a teacher in the NYCDOE. My kindergarten students have a variety of needs. With the school demographics being 79% Hispanic, and 13% English Language Learners, many resources are needed to ensure that all learners needs are being met. In kindergarten, one of the most important things to have is environmental print around the room, and visuals to go along with all teaching materials.
Our school's mission is to collaboratively educate the whole child.
My students deserve the best education possible, and I want to make sure I have the resources to provide them with that.
My Project
My students are just learning how to read and what better way to learn than by listening to a story! During literacy centers, I want my students to be able to choose between fiction and nonfiction stories to listen to and read along with! This will help with their fluency, phonemic awareness, comprehension, and recognition of sight words.
A majority of my students are English Language Learners, so a variety of resources are needed to teach reading strategies and give them the skills they need to succeed!
I would love for my students to have this resource to help them build those skills and become great, successful readers (and to learn to love reading, of course!)
