My Students

My first-grade students from Scottsdale, Arizona are creative, energetic, and eager to learn. They love hands-on activities, engaging projects, technology, and working with one another. Our school is Title One and many of my students come from low-income families. Within the past couple of years, our school has also made the transition to a traditional school. We are not always given everything we need to support our students. It is very important to me that I give my students the materials, resources, and tools that they need to be successful learners.

My Project

A listening center with books on CDs will support our daily reading centers by providing an engaging way to listen to stories. With the CD player and headphone splitter, up to five students can listen to a story at the same time. Books on CDs model fluid reading and promote the students to listen. The stories I have chosen are informational text, which are typically more challenging for young students to read. With the ability to listen to books on CDs, students can focus on comprehension, vocabulary, and the skills they need to be successful readers.

Listening to books on CDs will enrich students' multi-sensory experience with books.
