This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from the South Bronx. Most of them are from low-income families. We are a Title I school where they receive free lunch. Many of my students come from families where their parents are non-English speakers. My students are very excited about school. They love to come to school every day and are so eager to learn. They love reading and writing, they love being read to and they also love hand-on activities. They also have shown so much growth since September.
My Project
One thing my first grade students love is reading! They especially love to hear stories read aloud to them. In the listening center my students will be able to hear their favorite stories read aloud to them over and over. They can read along and also learn to be fluent readers by hearing the way good reading sounds.
Most of my students are English language learners and come from homes where their parents don't speak English.
Some of my students have never experienced being read to at home. Having books on CD for them to listen to will open up a new and exciting world for them.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
