This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My goal for this school year is to have all my 2nd graders reading on grade level. The biggest challenge I have is that most of them are either English Language Learners or struggling readers. They are eager to learn, but lack confidence and skills. I believe audio books will help them achieve this.
I have 17 happy and ambitious second grade students in my class.
It is a Title I school, located in Central Florida, and all students receive free breakfast and lunch. The school has a large population of English language learners. Many of the parents are not able to help their children with homework and reading due to language barriers. Our school also has extended the day by adding an extra hour of reading at the end.
My Project
The audio books will be used in a listening center where 2-3 students will be able to engage with the read-along. They will have two opportunities to use the listening center daily, during the morning reading block and the afternoon reading block (additional hour). After listening and reading the story, the students will have a written activity to complete describing characters, story structure, their opinion of the books, etc.
Your donations for this project will help the struggling readers of my classroom frequently hear fluent reading, learn new vocabulary, help word pronunciation, and make reading enjoyable!
