Listening and Looking at the World!!

My students need headphones and a carpet to stay engaged and focused in ELA and Social Studies.

My Students

I teach at a small middle school in a small school district. The district I teach in only has one elementary school, one middle school and one high school. The majority of the students live in poverty and are homeless. What I mean by homeless is that the parent(s) and the children are living with other relatives because they do not have a home of their own. The middle school I teach at is a Title One school, which means that we receive funds from the government to get some of the resources that we need. In addition, the students all receive free lunch and breakfast everyday.

My students walk into the classroom everyday ready to learn as we explore various countries around the world.

I try to make Social Studies as engaging as I can because I know that many students can be turned off from it because they feel its boring. I teach my students that history happens everyday and they are a part of it. I love seeing the expressions on their faces when they begin to discuss historical events. Many of my students have not explored outside of their own small town.

My Project

The materials I am requesting will greatly help my students achieve success in my ELA and Social Studies classes. The headphones will help my struggling learners stay focused when they work in centers and help them stay focused when they go to the computer lab, my students can use the headphones to stay focused on their I-Ready program for remediation. This form of technology will continue to keep students engaged when they are required to listen to a video via their Ipads in the classroom.

The requested carpet will be a great addition to the room because it will add color and fun to the room.

The students will have a place to sit during Social Studies to do small group work or they can use the carpet as a guide when they come across the continents in their readings.
