This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
At the end of the school year, my hope for my students is that their confidence has grown and that they are more proud of themselves as readers. The challenges we face are limited resources and materials, but my students know that anything is possible!
My class is an energetic group of 32 third graders.
They are very hard-working, dedicated, and love coming to school each and every day. My school is located in Chicago, Illinois and is in a low-income area. My students are all English Language Learners and strive for excellence daily. They get very excited when we have new supplies for our classroom and are always appreciative of anything they get.
My Project
My students would be so thrilled to have new materials for our classroom listening center. This center is one of their favorites, but we are limited as far as the materials that we have for this center. I have requested the fluency skills listening center kit and phrasing listening center activities kit. I am confident that these supplies will help build my students fluency skills, as well as improve their reading and comprehension. These supplies would be able to be used with my current class, as well as with future classes.
If our project gets funded, I have no doubt that my students will absorb new knowledge and information with our new listening center materials.
Learning about expression, punctuation, rate, accuracy, phrasing, and text features are not easy concepts for English Language Learners. With my teaching and extra support from these supplies, I am confident that they will get to a mastery level of understanding.
