My Students

The students I teach are between 10th and 12th grade. The students in my class have a clinical diagnosis of severe emotional disturbance. They are in a single classroom all day because they have a hard time interacting with peers and adults.

I am entering my 8th year as an ED teacher, and my students are the most inspirational students I know.

They all have hardships at home. Their lives are filled with poverty, drugs, gangs, and other difficulties. Our school is a career tech high school, and all of our students are being educated to be career and college-ready.

Typically, my students are referred to as the "Bad Students," which is the farthest from the truth. They need someone on their side. In our class,​ we have created that space for our students. Now that they feel comfortable with us, we want to give them the same opportunities as their peers. We believe in them.

My Project

In our digital age, learning has taken a new direction. Much of the classroom is reliant on technology, but not every student has access to the supplies they need to be successful. We often use an online personal finance curriculum to enhance the classroom experience. But, not all students have headphones they can bring to school or remember to bring them when they are needed. Not being able to listen to the activities makes learning very difficult.

New headphones will allow all students to listen at their own pace and not miss out on vital information if they are absent.

The headphones will stay in the classroom so all students can benefit from their use! I have also included storage for holding the headphones.
