My students come from diverse backgrounds from different parts of a small, rural town. Many of them are economically disadvantaged. They are intelligent, active, and eager to learn about anything.
My students work and learn individually, in pairs, and groups, and what they learn from each other is inspiring.
These students grow up with each other and support each other. They come in wide eyed and ready to start a day that they know will be safe, consistent, challenging, and fun!
My Project
Listening and speaking skills are a vital part of growing up and becoming a young adult. Listening and reading is a crucial part of helping students become fluent readers, that allow them to function in the real world.
I find that even in third grade, students love to listen to stories.
That is very apparent when I am reading a story aloud to them, and they lean in to hear what is going to come next. As I am only one person, a listening station is another way to allow students to enjoy quality literature and expand their reading appetite. Our equipment is out of date and doesn't function correctly, so we are in need of an update! The Multipurpose Headphones with Volume Control will allow students to adjust their volume pleasure as they read along and listen to stories. The Read-Along Storage Unit will allow students a safe, efficient way of organizing materials.
