This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Computers, iPads and portable cd players oh my! These resources are used in my classroom daily to for reading and math. We are so lucky to have different audio devices but so many times they are unused because we have no functioning headphones.

I have 28 special first graders this school year.

One of the reasons I know they are so special is because I was their Kindergarten teacher. They are wonderful students who have a strong desire to learn. We are a Chicago Public School with very limited resources. Each year our school gets less funding and given all the necessities required to keep a school running, there is typically no funds left in the budget for tools such as headphones. Many of my students do not have computers at home which is why I try to expose them to technology as much as possible.

My Project

Although we do have iPads, computers, and electronic books, we need headphones so that the noise level from the devices are not a distraction. I have selected these headphones because they are durable and I plan to use them for years to come. I have used other headphones however they do not last half the school year. In addition to listening to stories, we have reading and math computer based programs that require sound. For these games, students need to hear the audio to complete tasks. Its is very difficult to hear the computer without headphones as there are 4 computers, 4 iPads, 4, cd players and not to mention the rest of the class working on other tasks. Headphones help students work independently and keep them focused.

These headphones will reinforce math and reading concepts by allowing students to focus and work independently on technological devices.

In addition, they can listen to a large collection of literature independently on computers, iPads and Cd's. Overall, I know they are incredibly enthused about using technology because they do not have it at home. Help me help them maintain that enthusiasm.
