My Students
Who doesn't love to sit back and listen to a story being read to them? My kids LOVE to sit back and enjoy listening to a story on CDs. My students need 4 portable CD players with headphones and sets of books on CDS so they can work independently.
Teaching in a predominately low poverty school district, I am constantly looking for funding sources to provide adequate resources for our children to be successful.
Our students love learning and having fun while doing it. Our school is a wonderful place to spend each day! Unfortunately, one word I have to use to describe my class is underachieving. I have the hardest working five and six year olds, but they can only push themselves so far. Reading is an area we greatly struggle with. We have come along way, but we still need major improvements in our reading levels.
My Project
Learning to read is such a pivotal moment in a child's education, and these materials will help my students achieve that goal!
I have built up a fabulous classroom library filled with great literature for my students to read. Unfortunately, my listening center is greatly lacking. The books/tapes that we have are ancient hand-me-downs, mostly non-fiction, and all are far beyond my students' reading level or level of understanding. I am seeking a new sets of books and portable CD players for my students to enjoy The listening center is a great way for students to hear appropriate fluency, work independently, focus on comprehension and story understanding, all while enjoying a great piece of literature. They will be fully engaged into these amazing fun books.
This donation will improve my classroom in many ways!
Students will be exposed to literature making them better readers and listeners! Students become engaged in stories learning sight and vocabulary words, and variety of print material. When students begin to enjoy reading, then that's when real learning occurs!
