This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in a high poverty area in the Bronx, NY. Many of the students live in shelters,receive free breakfast and lunch, have difficult family lives, and have special needs. Despite these challenges, my students walk into school with a big smile on their face, ready for a new day of learning and growing. They enter the classroom with such joy, excited to see their friends and anxious for the day to begin.

My students love to learn, and I want to make sure they have the materials and resources to be successful students.

Many of them lack access to technology in the home which motivates me to provide these tools for my students even more. They are funny, dedicated, brilliant, kind, inquiring minds who rise to any academic challenge presented to them.

My Project

The Listening Center and class set of headphones will greatly impact my students and their academics. The majority do not have money to purchase their own headphones, which causes it to be difficult to concentrate when multiple people are working on a site with sound. My classroom has a hand me down listening center that is on its way out. These tools will provide the opportunity for my students to listen to a recording at the same time and follow along with a book. This will increase fluency, language skills, and work on comprehension skills as well.

With your donation, you will help set my students up for success by helping them focus with the appropriate listening materials to improve literacy.

You will also give them the freedom of concentrating solely on their work and not become distracted by the noise from their neighbor. Their favorite book could be something heard from the Listening Center you helped provide.
