Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our High School is an exciting place for young artists! The school serves 6th through 12th graders, most of whom are from low-income households. Our art program is very strong. I have started a gallery in the school. Not only does this give our artists a place to display their work, but it also allows students to gain experience with gallery and museum skills. All of the students do the matting, framing, hanging, and design of the exhibitions. Students also plan and execute gallery openings where community members are invited to celebrate all of the students' accomplishments. This gives students first-hand experience with careers in the art world. In December, we will be showing a series of mixed-media paintings that our juniors and seniors created. The paintings were inspired by pieces of music that the students chose. Our exhibit designers had a great idea to have mp3 players mounted on the walls alongside the artworks, so that viewers can hear the music that inspired the artwork while they view it. I am asking for five mp3 players that will be used to accompany our artworks on the gallery walls. With your help, we can make this interactive and auditory exhibition become a reality! At the termination of this exhibition, I will keep these mp3 players and use them for future projects during which students are painting or creating artwork as a response to music. I want my students to see that with creative minds, all things are possible! Thank you for helping our young artists and designers!
