My Students
My students are amazing youngsters who are curious about the world around them. They are a group of fun, friendly, and loving individuals who just want to learn new things. Even at such a young age, they understand the value of relationships with their peers and the adults they know well.
My school is a Title I school.
According to the U.S. Dept. of Education, Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. That being stated, I will be requesting various classroom supplies that I am in need of during the school year for class projects and lessons.
It is imperative that my students have the things they need to learn and grow. Since they are still so young, I want to be able to provide them with a multitude of opportunities to learn in new ways.
My Project
Kindergarten students are just learning how to read and write. Some are even just attending school for the first time. Although I plan on reading many books to my students on a daily basis, it is important that they hear books read to them by different voices.
Hearing a book on tape is just as important as picking up a book and reading the words aloud to yourself.
Children need to learn to listen for specific details that aide with the comprehension of the text. When they listen to a book on tape, they are able to follow along with the actual book. This is helpful because it lets them read words that they didn't know before.
An active listening center is an important part of a classroom community. Students can not only listen to the books but they can have meaningful conversations about the books afterwards.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
