Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We have 125 of the smartest, most creative five-year-Olds in the world. They are all eager to learn and always ready for the next learning adventure.

Our school is located just east of Los Angeles in a predominantly Latino community.

More than half of our student population qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Most of our parents are hardworking people trying their best to provide all their children need to succeed in school. Volunteer hours and support at home is what many families can and do give. Unfortunately, monetary support to the school in not possible for the majority. Our community also has the largest population of foster children in Los Angeles County. Many grandparents on fixed incomes are taking the responsibility of raising their grandchildren. With more and more cuts to our school’s budget, we teachers struggle to provide the basic needs of our students. Please help us do just that.

My Project

Due to overcrowding, most kindergarten classes were assigned to classrooms meant for older students. Our classes have half the square footage of a regular kindergarten class. Every spare inch of classrooms is used and still more space in needed. By funding our project we would have wireless speakers, IPad docks, audio adapters, and musical instruments. These tools give us the ability to take the learning anywhere on campus. Learning centers would be manageable with high interest technology as a small group option, allowing us the work with struggling students one to one. This technology would also allow us to take full advantage of the digital resources now available. We will use these tools to incorporate music and movement into Science, Math and even Language Arts. Everyday, for every subject. The push for the use of technology in the classroom is here. Yet kindergarten is often overlooked when funding resources are allocated.

By funding our project you will provide the necessary technology we need to teach in this digital age.

If funded, students listen to, dance with and move to the sights sounds of digital resources. Like it our not, this is the age of video games and sounds bites. Help us catch and keep their attention with the use of these, speakers, Idocks, and musical instruments. When engaged, students learn. The resources are here. With you help, we will have what we need to use them.
