What is the best way to know if you're reading something correctly? By listening to what you're reading!

We love to read in our classroom.

And not only do we love to read, we are learning in Spanish! We are in a dual immersion program so most of our learning takes place in Spanish. We are committed and dedicated to being bilingual in English and Spanish by the time we graduate from elementary school.

My Project

When you are learning a second language, the best way to know if you are speaking it the right way is to have a language model. As the teacher, I am the primary language model, but when we break into centers to do our language work, there is only one of me and there are four centers. Unfortunately, I cannot be the model at all times for everyone at the same time. A listening center will allow the children to read a story and listen to the story at the same time to gauge if they are reading with correct intonations.

This listening center will greatly help my students' autocorrect their Spanish reading and speaking skills, as well as listening and ultimately writing.

This will set these kids up for the rest of their academic career so that ultimately they will leave elementary school bilingual in English and Spanish.
