Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Many of my students come from homes where very limited English is spoken. So while they are mastering academic content, they are usually faced with learning English. My incoming 1st graders are below level students who desperately need help in the area of literacy. They don't yet understand what good reading sounds like, and feels like. They are still learning the relationship between letters and words, but yet they are expected to be able to read fluently and demonstrate secure levels of listening and reading comprehension. By using the listening station materials requested in this proposal my students will become skillful in the areas of blending, letter sound correspondence and fluency. The Phonics Read Along Kit will help them master short vowels, long vowels, and vowel combinations. In addition they will become more familiar with the vast array of letter sounds, and letter-word relationships that make up the English language. Your support of my students in the area of literacy will not only help them become better readers, but will give them the foundation and courage to excel in all of the content areas. Remember, before they can tackle other subject areas they must be able to read. Together we can help them develop a path for successful learning.
