Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need more opportunities to work independently! First graders are anxious to learn, but most of the time they have to wait for instructions to be read and explained. My students need audio activities that will allow them to do higher-level work independently.

My students are lively, enthusiastic, determined, unique, intelligent, and eager to learn!

They come from a variety of backgrounds and they are at all different levels in their learning. My students attend a college and career preparation school in a lower income area. They thrive on the, "I did it all by myself" mentality! Successes are shared daily in our class, and I want to give my students more opportunities to grow!

My Project

My students love listening to books at the listening center, but I want to engage them even more! I want to use the listening center as a fun and independent way to learn. With listening activities, my students will be able to do more difficult assignments without teacher help. My students are on so many different levels and my time to work with individuals and smalls groups is limited. These activities will push my students further, allow them to practice vital skills, and keep them engaged. With listening activities I can give every group an appropriate assignment. My struggling students will receive more practice on reading skills, like word families and phonics, while my higher students will get challenged with synonyms, antonyms, homophones, and higher-level vocabulary. These activities will also provide extra-practice and challenges in math!

Nothing is more frustrating to a teacher than not being able to give as much time to a student as you would like.

Small group and individual time in the classroom is precious. This project will allow me to better differentiate my instruction and small group time. I will be able to provide extra-practice and challenge activities that my students can actually do independently. These activities will give my current and future students success, and that makes all the difference.
