My Students

My students come alive in the classroom. We use creativity, fun, and cooperative learning to encourage student engagement, an empathetic, peaceful community, and academic progress.

My students go to an inner city school in Minnesota where school funding is thin.

We have an extremely diverse community in the truest sense of the word. The students come from a large variety of backgrounds pulling from many parts of the city, which makes our community so special. My classroom consists of many students who receive services for special education, english language learners, and free or reduced lunch options.

My school is an International Peace Site and in a time when most of my students are burdened with stress or conflict we create a safe, peaceful, and fun space for them at school to be themselves and feel supported in every way. My students learn to be kind, and empathetic members of a community.

While focusing on academics is another part of our focus at my school, many students have to work harder than the average child to get to grade level standards. We instill grit and perseverance in each child to get them to their goals.

My Project

My students need quality, reliable headphones to enhance learning in reading and math. We currently have headphones that have split wires and broken ear pieces. Many students have to rely on closed captioning to complete their activities on the iPads.

Struggling readers will use these headphones to listen to audio books as a way to engage in more complex texts.

All students use headphones in our classroom to access a supplemental math game that challenges their mathematical thinking.

Headphones are a vital tool in the classroom to help auditory learners. It is important that my students have a wide variety of ways to learn in the classroom to meet all of their needs.
