My Students

Remember being young and having all the great stories read to you? My students all love read-alouds and you can help make it possible for them to experience them every day!

I work in a high-risk school that serves a large population of families that are economically-disadvantaged.

Each day I love reading aloud to my students as a group, but rarely can read to each child individually. The 18 wonderful and energetic kindergartners in my class are eager to develop into outstanding readers.

My Project

We will use the CD players and books everyday in our listening center. My students will be able to work on fluency by listening to books on CDs, then reading the book with the CD, and eventually reading it on their own. Students who listen to audio books hear good expression, proper phrasing,and readers reading fluently. They are able to then model that reading when they read the book alone.

Teaching children to read is vital for their success in the classroom and real world.

By donating to our project you will be enabling new readers to practice reading everyday. You will be helping to instill the love of reading and learning in my students this year as well as in the years to come.
