Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in an urban district where the majority of our students qualify for free and reduced breakfast and lunch. I have a regular education classroom that includes ESL students, Special Education students, and students from a variety of economic backgrounds.

My students come to school every day ready to learn and eager to be engaged.

They put forth their best effort every day and are active participants in their own learning. I am continually looking for new ways to keep them invested in their education.

My Project

In my classroom I have many students who work hard but continue to struggle with grade level text. They are unable to access and read many of the chapter books their peers are enjoying due to difficulty with decoding and fluency.

The best way for students to become better readers is to consistently hear fluent reading.

With these resources, my students will be able to hear stories that are challenging for them to read alone. As they listen, they will follow along with the written text, which will reinforce good reading habits, build self confidence, and expose them to appropriate materials for their grade and age.
