This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"A book is a gift you can open again and again." -Garrison Keillor
I have a group of 11 amazing students.
All of my students have some sort of learning or intellectual disability. Our special education program is located in an amazing school, but often we are falling short of being able to provide that materials our students need to be most successful. This is usually due to the fact that many of the parents are not able to provide new materials to the classroom.
My Project
My students will use these headphones every day during reading and math interventions. During their reading intervention, they will be able to listen to a story that they are reading and then listen to the questions that go along with the books they are reading. The stories that the students read are based on their individual reading level. This allows them to practice individually and still be monitored by the teacher.
The addition of the microphones will allow the students to record themselves reading and then either myself or myself and the students can listen to their recording. We will be able to listen to their recording and discuss their fluency and strategies on how it can be improved. This will promote fluency for the students.
Many of my students have sensory sensitivities. When asked to clean off their white boards with their fingers many of them do not like that. The mini erasers will allow the students to not be affected by the texture.
This project will allow my students to have sturdy headphones that are less likely to break, our current ones are all broken but three and we started the year off with thirty.
They will also be able to hear themselves read which they are currently not able to do!
