This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a very low socioeconomic background and do not have the access to technology.

Our school is 100% free breakfast and lunch. We have the highest rate off ELL (English language learners) in the state and a high amount of special education students.

My Project

The listening center in our classroom is currently closed due to lack of materials. Our classroom is missing all the essentials for a successful listening center: CD player, group set of children™s books, and headphones. If the students were to use this center, they would not be able to use headphones because the CD player we currently have does not have that option. This would pose as a major distraction for all other groups working during workshop and intervention blocks. There is also not a complete set of books with Cd's for the students to use. This is not an ideal set up for an active center during workshop and intervention times. During this center, students will be able to listen to popular children's books. Majority of the books I picked out will be new to my students. This will help them become engaged listeners and readers. By listening to these stories, students will be able to develop new vocabulary, build fluency, and improve their reading comprehension.children

My students are eager to get this center up and running.

It is a center that they thoroughly enjoy and I wish I had a way to bring this excitement back into their day. This new and improved listening center will help make learning fun!
