We have a growing photography club at the intercity high school where I teach Geometry.
I teach Geometry in an intercity high school where my student’s idea of artwork is limited to public graffiti and the drawings they sketch on their notebook.
As their teacher I would love to expose them to the art of photography by sponsoring an after-school photography club. I remember when I took a picture with my very first camera. I was amazed at the camera's ability to capture living objects on film. It was an amazing experience that I would love to expose to my inspired high schoolers. After teaching them how to use the equipment I want to take them on outings in the local community to capture real-life and historic landmarks and have them printed on postcards. This way they will realize that there is picturesque scenery all around them. I would then love for them to show their artwork in a gallery right in the halls of our school.
In a time when many Arts programs have been cut out of public schools, we continue to keep our torch lit through your continuing support. Many of our students come from very humble backgrounds and look forward to this much needed structure. To make this project a success, we will create a library of all our creative works of Art on a notebook computer. This computer will be used to edit, store, & teach my young photographers the many creative facets of photography. This photography club, as all well structured Arts programs are important pieces to our youth’s development and preparation for college. A well rounded student makes a successful college graduate.
