My students need literacy materials, such as the Build a Sentence Stamp Center, Magnetic Words Center, Grammar and Usage Bingo and Reader's Response Pocket Chart, in order to accomplish the reading and language arts goals for the year.

Our school district is located in a rural area that is filled with high-need, low income students. Over half of the students in our school qualify for food assistance.
Although my classroom is filled with students who need extra help with literacy skills, the district is not able to provide the extra materials that are needed to help this population be successful. Decreases in funding have become a barrier to reaching these most vulnerable students.
My students deserve to have materials that will interest and excite them. They need hands-on manipulatives that will make the abstract concepts more concrete. If learning to read and write are presented using novel and fun materials, these students will be able to reach their full potential.
Helping to fund my project will enable me to give these students the extra support that they need to become literate citizens that will not be held back just because they attend a rural, low-income school. They will be excited about learning and will grow into independent life-long learners.
