My students need books that engage and inspire them to learn more about their world and the supplies to demonstrate that knowledge to themselves, their peers, and their community.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school provides a safe haven for students in a high mobility area of our city. Our community is a diverse mix of families, some in their second generation of attendance, veteran and new teachers (including two former students!), and experienced school leaders.
While our students face some obstacles in accessing resources, they have the same aspirations and hopes as students throughout the city.
We strive to overcome some obstacles in providing them with the access and use of technologies that will help them fulfill their goals.
My Project
My students love nonfiction text and are plowing through all the classroom copies of "Who was?", and "What is?", and need more text to engage them to ask questions about their world! We take books with us everywhere, and almost everyone has one from this series. The school supplies will let them demonstrate what they've learned and practice their reading strategies through presentations about their subject matter, further their research and production, and help them prepare for their Fifth Grade IB Exhibition projects. These projects are the culmination of their learning, and these supplies will allow them to share their knowledge.
