Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The addition of a cozy reading nook, complete with soft carpet and comfortable chairs, will continue to nurture a love for reading among my Pre-K students. At this foundational stage, reading is introduced in a way that sparks curiosity and sets the stage for a lifelong appreciation of books, comprehension, and reading for enjoyment.

In our Pre-K classroom, books are displayed by theme, giving students the opportunity to explore a variety of genres and vocabulary while becoming familiar with the topic of study.

My classroom library is a favorite space for my students, a place where they eagerly explore books and often gather on the carpet to listen as I read aloud. The goal is to guide them toward becoming independent readers, with many students beginning to read syllables by the end of the year.

This cozy library space offers more than just books. It provides a nurturing environment where students learn essential early literacy skills, how to hold a book properly, follow text from left to right, and read top to bottom. These are critical first steps in their reading journey. Research and experience both show that the best way to build reading skills is simply to read—and having a warm, inviting place to do so helps students feel safe, confident, and ready to learn.
