My Project
My classroom has a wide variety of students who come through my door on a daily basis. A majority of them speak a first language that is not English. Often times the lessons for these students are multi-modal involving audio and video components. The speakers would be helpful in providing audio around the room, which often times corded-speakers can only reach so far. Having wireless speakers that could be moved around the room allows for all students to be able to engage with the content and not miss out on anything. After listening to audio clips and watching videos, it is of great help for multi-language learners to display their understanding on easel pads that we can stick around the room. Having the giant poster paper allows for group collaboration and sharing of knowledge that peers can see. Also in our classroom we like to read just as much as we do act. With the lighting equipment we would be able to immerse the class in the atmosphere of whatever it is we are reading or acting out that day. Selective choices in lighting will help students focus and engage with the content in an otherwise stagnant fluorescent white light. The other supplies would be of help to organizing student materials around the classroom as well as providing much needed outlets for student computers. Almost everything we do has some part on a computer and we can't seem to have enough outlets. By providing my students with the supplies requested, not only will we will be able to give them a memorable experience that will help them connect to the content on a deeper level and feed their desire to learn about the English Language Arts, but also increase their academic achievement because they are invested in the content.
