My Students

As a veteran teacher at a Title 1 school located in a low-income/high-poverty community, I am well aware of the many challenges that my students face every day, both in and outside of the classroom. I am also aware of their enthusiasm for learning, their tremendous potential for high achievement, and their brilliant creativity.

My students shine brightest when they work creatively and collaboratively.

They demonstrate great pride in their work, celebrating their growth and improvement while challenging themselves and each other to exceed expectations.

My Project

My students have expressed great enthusiasm for creating an official school news channel that will put them in charge of planning, filming, and editing content. We have begun developing ideas for segments related to school culture and student interests, and critically viewing local and national news programs to evaluate how the professionals do it. We have even started writing and filming short pilots in an effort to refine our work both on and off camera.

Having a teleprompter beam splitter will provide my students with the real-world experience of creating and delivering content just like broadcast professionals while supporting the development of their communication skills.

My students have already identified the importance of maintaining eye contact with the audience (i.e. looking into the camera lens) while reading their scripts with expressiveness. They have also seen how professional news anchors use the teleprompter to deliver a professional presentation with confidence, and realize how much their own presentations will improve if they are fortunate enough to receive a teleprompter of their own.

My students and I are already preparing content for the next school year. We hope to be ready to film and report on the first week of school. A new teleprompter will help my students create impressive media content that they will be proud to share with our school and community.
