My Students
"...the single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children." Report on the Commission of Reading.
Expanding the collection of read-aloud and book choices to anything on my bookshelf, not just "Big Books."
My students attend a rural, public school that is situated in a very poor town in South Carolina.
The school is considered High Risk due to low test scores and below average graduation rates. The school is located in a very high poverty area with little to no industry or jobs in the area. Over 90% of my 48 students receive free or reduced lunch, and many leave school each day still hungry knowing they will not eat again until the next morning.
My Project
The document camera will make reading and writing come alive for my students. It will create learning opportunities for my students that they haven't had before. The document camera will provide new tools to enhance student presentations, create opportunities for group and individual sharing, and allow them to see and being a part of wonderful stories as they are read aloud, and projected on the screen. My students will also be able to explore using visual information to extend, enhance, and inspire their writing. The camera will also allow the teacher to share student writing and give immediate feedback, reinforce effort, or provide recognition. Having a document camera is in the best interest of all of my students and their futures.
Having a document camera in my classroom is a powerful teaching tool.
A document camera will be able to bring any book alive for all my students. The use of a document camera will make reading fun and easy. When students find reading fun and exciting they will become better readers.
