Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from all over the world - especially from countries that speak Spanish.
Although my students attend a "highest poverty" school, this is not their defining characteristic.
Instead, my students are curious, artistic, competent and courageous. They defy their 'at-risk" circumstances by taking advantage of every possible opportunity for advancement presented to them. Our extracurricular activities are full of enthusiastic students eager to spend time in a caring environment away from the harsh realities of a rough neighborhood.
My Project
If you really want to learn something, re-teach it!
Our goal is to create a re-teaching center in our classroom.
It would include a camera, lighting kit, and a computer to edit videos. So, when a group of students feels like they've mastered a concept, they can re-teach it in a short video and publish that video on our YouTube page.
We have a few students who are going to create their own YouTube channel called, Kids Learn Spanish. They will record short videos teaching Spanish vocabulary and concepts with the re-teaching station and publish them on the channel.
We are already blessed to own a camera, microphone, and there is a teacher computer to edit videos. However, through this project, we will be able to make more professional looking videos with the lighting kit and will have a dedicated computer for editing so that the teacher can still continue to work while the re-teaching station is being used.
