My Students
I work with a wide variety of students in grades K-5 at a STEAM/Project Based Learning focused school. Each student is unique in their interests and learning style, and I strive to recognize those differences and meet them on their level to help develop their cognitive and social emotional skills through active, hands-on learning experiences.
I strongly believe in the power of hands-on learning experiences.
They empower my students to be more focused, engaged, and motivated learners. And more importantly, hands-on learning fosters imagination, confidence, and builds critical cognitive and social-emotional development skills that will aid them in future endeavors.
My Project
My 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students are budding engineers and artists, full of wonder and creativity! They have a fascination with things that move and are constantly tinkering with materials in our maker and art zones to make things like zip lines, mini catapults, and marble runs. While tinkering, many of our conversations center around how they can improve their designs, and off the cuff lessons in engineering and physics.
As an educator that believes in child-centered and hands-on learning, I would like to strengthen this interest and have my students investigate the properties of physics, motion, and kinetics by visually tracking the movement, path, and speed of different objects using LED lights and stop motion photography.
The materials in this project would give my students the opportunity to explore and learn science in fun and accessible ways, and hopefully inspire them to continue to pursue STEM/STEAM related endeavors in the future.
