My Students
Every day, I provide speech and language services for students with speech and language services. The greatest challenge faced by my students is the ability to observe how articulation disorders inhibit communication with others. Maybe this is the year my students take a different perspective.
As a Speech Language Pathologist, I serve students at every grade level and with differing levels of abilities.
The students I work with demonstrate a wide array of disabilities, included speech deficits (e.g. stuttering, articulation disorders, alternative forms of communication), language deficits (e.g. spatial concepts, mastery of basic sentence structure), and pragmatic deficits (i.e. lack skills in basic social interaction). The campus on which I serve is home to a Special Day Class (SDC) as well as general education classrooms. Students receiving speech and language services require varied and focused intervention to meet both academic and speech/language goals.
My Project
The iRig microphone, Audio Technica ATR 6550 shotgun microphone, Sony VCT R100 tripod, and iPad mount funded by you and Disney Create will be used as a therapy tools to allow students to record, observe, and fine tune there articulation performance. The microphones will be utilized in a variety of therapy activities, including: articulation drills, creation of social stories, recording student written social scenes, data tracking in the area of stutter reduction. The microphones and ipad will allow students to learn by observing, critiquing and correcting their articulation and linguistic mistakes. Most importantly, the microphones will be instrumental in demonstrating to students their own progress in the speech and language program.
Speech and Language Students require creative teaching strategies.
The microphones funded by you and Disney Create allow students to learn by observing and correcting articulation errors through fun and creative activities. Currently, iPads allow students to learn by observing their body language during social interaction, but iPad microphones are insufficient for recording articulation errors. The microphones funded by donors choose will allow students to observe all aspects of language.
