Lights, Camera, Learn! Building a Student Broadcast Journalism Studio

Help me give my students broadcast journalism supplies, books, and references on journalism.

My Project

In my high school journalism class, students do more than just write stories—they create real news broadcasts for our school community. From planning and scripting to filming and editing, they learn the entire process of producing a professional-quality news segment that informs, entertains, and engages their peers.

To make this experience authentic and accessible for every student, we need essential equipment like microphones, tripods, lighting, storage drives, and a green screen.

These tools will transform our classroom into a functional broadcast studio where students can collaborate to produce weekly news shows. Whether they’re filming interviews, capturing footage on the go, or editing the final cut, this project will give them the skills they need to communicate confidently in our media-driven world.

In addition to the technical equipment, I’ve included copies of The Elements of Journalism, Revised and Updated 4th Edition—a foundational text that explains the principles of ethical, responsible journalism. This book will help students understand the importance of accuracy, fairness, and integrity in the news they create, giving them not only the tools to produce media but also the knowledge to do it thoughtfully and ethically.

Your support will help students become thoughtful digital storytellers, responsible media consumers, and creative content creators—all while building teamwork, public speaking, and technical skills that will serve them far beyond high school.

Thank you for investing in the next generation of journalists!
