Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are the documentarians of my school - the journalists. These 110 students produce photos, stories, and design products read by the entire student body. What our scholastic journalism program benefits us benefits the entire student body.
We are the image makers.
They stay after school, come to school early, interview, sell ads and produce their product with a near-nothing budget in a school community affected by Hurricane Harvey.
In short, they work miracles every day to make this school better. This project will only further their education and make it easier to accomplish their goals.
My Project
The photography and journalism programs at my school have grown every year. With growth comes the need for more advanced equipment and publicity. We've grown our number of cameras and need more memory. We need more equipment to support a backdrop kit for studio lighting. We need classroom reference materials to use industry standard software that these students have never used before.
In other words, our program is offering career and artistic training to students that otherwise would never have that opportunity.
In addition, this project would give us the ability to publicize our work in the hallways for the whole school to see. This will help us generate additional revenue on our path to being financially self-sufficient.
