This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine sitting in a classroom that brings the textbook to life? The way my students learn can change because of your contributions! Students will be able to act out events in history, learn how to edit, and show what they have learned in a new and exciting way!

I teach in an urban school district that faces many challenges.

I am a 4th grade ESL/Language Arts teacher. My school is the largest elementary school in the state of Texas. We usually have between 1200 to 1400 students! 85 percent of our students are on free/reduced lunch and are considered low-socioeconomic. I currently serve two classes of about 40 students. Many of my students are facing academic challenges due to their backgrounds and home lives. Among these challenges are dyslexia, slow-learners, learning disabilities, and language. I also have students who are on grade-level that would benefit from this enrichment. I am determined to meet the needs of all my students.

My Project

As many of you know, teachers compete with video games, MP3 players, and many other technology devices. Using technology to teach in the classroom will give my students endless possibilities and opportunities for extended learning. Movie making is one way to do this. Writing scripts and working together to display our knowledge in a creative way are both benefits of movie-making in the classroom. We use the movie-making process to help us understand, reinforce, and review new concepts we are learning in different areas of the curriculum. We also make creative movies to enhance our ability to write interesting stories.

Your donation will impact and make a difference in the lives of my students.

Making movies will build community among my students, hone in on their writing skills, engage their creative imaginations, and instill confidence even in those students who might have been afraid to be in front of the camera. Movie-making is an exciting way to make learning come alive in the classroom!
