This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the joy of performing in front of the school? My students are very enthusiastic about their performances, but our lighting system is severely outdated, and most of the lights do not work causing our hard work to be performed on a dimly lit stage.

Presently, I teach elementary/middle school music (4-8) at a high needs public school in Illinois where most of our students are either on free or reduced-price lunch.

Due to budget cuts, the school is unable to fund a theater or music program for the school. As the music teacher for our school, I am in charge of presenting school assemblies showcasing the talent of our students. Studies have shown that playing musical instruments has been linked to greater student achievement in school. Music, being an interdisciplinary subject, encompasses all subjects students encounter during their education.

My Project

I am requesting a stage lighting system for our school auditorium for school performances. Our kids work really hard to put on top-notch performances. Without an adequate lighting system, their hard work cannot be appreciated in the school auditorium. Having a lighting system at the school will allow the students a chance to perform in musical productions, concerts, assemblies, and plays. They will also receive the satisfaction that they are being seen. Music is very entertaining and allows for freedom of expression. My students deserve the opportunity to express themselves through music and the arts.

Music is the universal language and provides an experience that will allow the students to appreciate the creative process and develop a commitment to excellence.
