My Students

A typical day in Mrs. M's Advanced Drama classroom is busy and purposeful. Students are learning some techniques on acting and performing. My biggest hope for them this year is to help them grow into better actors with instant feedback on what they need to do to grow as a performer.

I teach in a predominantly African-American school.

My school is title one and parental participation is fairly low. Many of the students receive free or reduced lunch. Resources are low, as well. It gives me so much pleasure to watch my students stretch their creative legs despite some hard oppositions that many of them have had to overcome. I have heard some heartbreaking stories from my kids and I know that school is sometimes not the most important thing on their mind.

My Project

The reason why I need this iPad Air is to be able to record my students during their classroom performances. We can also use the programs on the iPad to edit the clips, so that they can see areas of improvement. I am often times telling them what areas they need to work on, but it will be 100 times better for them to SEE what areas they need to work on. Having this piece of technology will greatly improve my students' performances because they will have a tangible piece of evidence that they can see and make better efforts to fix an area of weakness. We sometimes don't really know how well we did something until we go back and actually evaluate it ourselves. With live performances that is difficult to do, so recording them would be an extremely powerful tool. The iPad Air will be useful, also, when we work on our film unit in which students will write and produce their own vignette. The students will be able to film and edit their pieces and we can view them in class.

This donation will help my class because students will be able see how their performances actually look.

They will be able work harder on the areas they need to strengthen and continue to grow as performers. My students will be able to see the importance of evaluation and conceptualize concepts taught in class.
