Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students that I teach love the opportunity to learn with partners or in groups. They strengthen their knowledge by completing tasks together. This allows my academically stronger students to assist those struggling to understand concepts. My students gain and remember so much more from this type of learning.
My students thrive with hands on activities especially when technology is involved.
On any given day, my students use technology to research topics, practice math facts, reading, and document learning. Many of my students come from households where technology is limited. I try to encourage my students to make use of the many tools we have in the classroom that they may not have access to outside of the school day.
My Project
The use of a digital camcorder will allow us to record our learning and share it with others. I would love to be able to have students share what we have observed by creating quick paper slide videos. In this type of video, students teach a concept by drawing several illustrations on paper and creating a script that goes along with it. Students then read the script as they film themselves sliding each paper. These videos can then be upload to our class site to share our learning with fellow classmates, other students at school, as well as parents and other community members.
The ease and functionality of a camcorder brings the learning into the hands of my students.
We have been using an IPAD to record videos but it is often hard for students to hold the IPAD steady, focus on the speaker, and pick up on the speaker's voice. These difficulties often cause the students to record themselves multiple times before getting an adequate taping. This causes some frustration. I am hoping that the small size of a camcorder and the quality of the recording will increase my students' ability to photograph and share their learning with others.
