What is an actor without a script? That's something I don't want my students to ever find out! I serve about 800 students in a Title 1 school in a low income area in Brooklyn, New York. We have an exciting program called Reader's Theater which helps students excel in reading.
I teach children from grades K-5.
My students mostly come from low income families. They are vibrant and eager to learn. For many of them, English is not their first language. For this reason, we are constantly looking for new and exciting ways to build their literacy skills in English.
My Project
The resources I am requesting are extremely basic but critical to ensuring that our Reader's Theater program runs smoothly. We need a lot of paper and folders! Each child must be able to have a reproduced copy of a script in order to get the most out of the program by practicing the script as much as possible. The folders will be used to hold the children's scripts so that they will be preserved for use throughout the school year.
Donations to this project will have a direct impact on the academic achievement of my students.Reader's Theater has been shown to increase fluency and comprehension and may well inspire a life long love of reading.During Reader's Theater students get to become part of the story.
They actually participate in bringing the stories to life. Your donations will help bring struggling readers right to center stage!
