Lights, Camera, Action! Let's Put on Some Theaterics!
Help me give my students the gift of theater and dramatic arts. Musical theater gives students the ability to learn social-emotional skills and builds their confidence.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach fifth grade at a school that’s served the area for over 114 years. My students are predominantly of Latino descent. Our student body is diverse: 71% are Latinos, 15% White (Predominantly Armenian), 6% Asian, 4% African American, 3% Filipino, and 1% others (which includes Pacific Islander and Native American).
Our school is Title I with 96% of our students classified as low income and qualified for free lunch.
48% of the population is classified as English Learners.
My students are 21st century learners who apply critical thinking to their everyday learning. On any given day, you will see students engaged in cooperative learning and discussion.
Students use technology as a tool to enhance their thinking and create projects that display what was learned using google apps for education. I have many Gifted students in my classroom who need to be challenged through problem based learning. I would like to challenge them to think outside of the box and come up with solutions to problems our world faces. Many of my students face economic hardships at home, but are determined to do their best in order to succeed.
My Project
Help bring back theater art and performances back to our school. Covid locked us away in our homes for over a year, and now that things are opening back up it's time to bring back school performances to brighten up our world. Help students in my classroom get back to responsible human interaction and performing for their parents and community members.
By donating to this project you are purchasing site licenses for 10 different plays that will reach audiences from kindergartners to sixth graders, parents, and community members!
Students in my classroom and school put on annual plays and musicals that reinforce the concepts being taught in the classroom. Students who normally might be she are given the opportunity to break free from their shell through the dramatic arts. Each year I put on a play and invite other classrooms to join in on the fun. The content of the plays covers science and social studies so students are learning while they are acting or spectating.
