One of the most pervasive interests I find in my students is a love of film. Our school used to have a wonderful Film History elective class, but recent budget cuts have eliminated that enriching option for our students. This is a true shame for many reasons, chief among them that many of the students I speak with have an encyclopedic knowledge of films and are actively looking for an outlet for their interests. It is a topic our kids are passionate about and it informs their lives in a plethora of ways. Teaching to our students' interests is one of the most important ways we can enrich their lives and make them life long learners.
As someone who studied film in college, I have been working for the past year to recreate our school's Film History class as an after school elective. Many students have expressed great interest in taking part and we've have great success with several classes... however, we've run into a problem locating screenable copies of many films made before 1960. While public libraries, video stores, and the Internet are wonderful resources for films, locating vintage movies has become a real problem in the past few months.
I would like to create a comprehensive Film Studies program for my high school students. To do this, I need access to classic films made previous to 1975. By having a wealth of titles available, I can teach a wide variety of movies, to which many of my students would never otherwise be exposed.
Your donation will help cultivate an appreciation for classic film in the lives of students who very often do not have a chance to follow their muse in their studies. Thank you for considering donating to this project!
