My Students

My students part of a small neighborhood school in a high poverty urban district, where 100% of our students receive free lunch.

My students are dynamic and excited learners, who are energized to learn.

We do not receive many resources from our school district, which makes it difficult to enrich the basic curriculum in order to help learning come to life for these third graders.

Our students are part of an arts initiative, bringing arts strategies into the classroom in order to increase student engagement and achievement.

My Project

My students are part of an initiative, which brings arts strategies into the classroom. For the upcoming school year, I will be bringing reading and writing to life through readers' theater. Through this project, my students will be excited and engaged in a host of reading and writing acitivities; which will not only boost student learning, but confidence and self expression as well.

My students need a selection of readers, theater scripts, a color printer, and camcorder in order to practice, create and print, and record their creations.

In my room, students will practice reading through acting out readers' theater scripts. In addition to learning lines and understanding characters in plays; students will also create their own plays. In creating their own scripts, students will write, edit, and publish them on the color printer, and record their final productions with a camcorder.
