Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are the best! In our drama classes, we do everything from makeup applications to stage fighting to performing at the zoo! This year we are focusing on community outreach, showcasing our talents to the elderly in various assisted living facilities. But this year, we plan on showcasing another talent. Film making!
With the equipment we currently possess, antiquated would be a nice thing to say.
With Ipads, our kids can make their own mini stop action 30-second films. With our goal of community outreach, each kid can sit with a resident, show them their film, and assist the resident in making one also!
My students come from diverse backgrounds and cultures. We are inclusive, and with drama, it's remarkable how adaptive we can be exploring continents and cultures. ....and exploring the age gap as well. By committing to community outreach, our kids get to experience the wisdom of the ages firsthand. It isn't abstract, but interacting with the generations will foster communication, understanding, and altruism.
My Project
Altruism and connecting with the generations is a key component of my teaching. My kids, through community sharing, will have a rapport with their environment, which can only be achieved through one on one connection with the community.
The iPads will connect one generation of kids to the generations before them.
They will become the teachers, instructing the elder generation how to work with computers in a new and different way. Together and alone, the kids will make 30- second films. With the iPads, this can be accomplished. The kids will learn a new skill, and will, in turn, become instructors themselves.
The iPads have an app that has the technology to make these mini-films. It has an immediate result, giving the children and the elderly instant feedback! This is great for elders and students who have short attention spans.
Students will be enriched for their altruistic giving and sharing....and also learning a new skill! They will also become more caring, hopefully, of their community.
