Lighting up Learning with an LCD Projector

My students need an LCD projector.

This project is fully funded

Though my students are economically disadvantaged, they are not disadvantaged when it comes to the literature we read -- the works of Thoreau, Steinbeck, Achebe, Shakespeare, and many more come to life in my classroom. I teach both 9th grade English and AP Literature to 12th graders in a low income, urban school.

Our school lacks texts, resources, essays, and material to fully complement the English curriculum. And though my students come from a culture that does not necessarily emphasize literature, they are falling in love with the texts I once read in high school, that made me want to be an English teacher. I want my students to continue to see the relevance in reading, writing, and analyzing.

With an LCD projector, another world of comprehension would be possible. In our world today, visual and auditory learning are crucial to my students' comprehension of the material. Many of my high school students read at elementary levels, and their writing is riddled with simple grammatical errors. Being able to access audiotapes, articles, powerpoints, read alouds, interviews, videos, poems, essays, and more will skyrocket their comprehension, and empower my students for their future.
