My Project
The specific items I am requesting for this project—dimmer, softer lighting options—will make a significant difference in my students' learning by creating a calmer, more focused environment. Fluorescent lights, which are commonly used in classrooms, can be harsh and distracting. They often contribute to eye strain, headaches, and discomfort, especially for students with sensory sensitivities or conditions like ADHD or anxiety. By using softer, dimmed lighting, I aim to reduce these distractions and create a more soothing atmosphere that helps students stay engaged and relaxed.
When the lighting is less intense, students can focus more easily on their tasks without the overstimulation that bright, fluorescent lights often cause.
Dimmer lighting can also have a calming effect, which is particularly beneficial during independent reading, writing, or activities that require deep concentration. This project aligns with the broader objective of creating a learning environment where students feel comfortable, supported, and ready to learn.
The goal of this project is to transform the classroom into a space that promotes better concentration and overall well-being.
What makes my students special is their diversity of needs and learning styles. Some students thrive in high-energy environments, while others benefit from quieter, more peaceful settings. By introducing softer lighting, I can meet the needs of all students, especially those who are more sensitive to their surroundings. This simple change can make a profound difference in their ability to focus, learn, and succeed.
