Light Up Our Worlds

Help me give my students an inviting and nurturing space filled with calming sensory lights so they can work toward their self-designed therapeutic goals.

My Project

Adjustable sensory lighting helps all students to feel safe and create an environment based on their individual needs. Currently, when we are working on their therapeutic goals, we are in a typical classroom setting: sterile lighting, surrounded by desks, and looming cinder block walls.

Various forms of lamps and sensory lighting can be adjusted to create a world that helps each child feel connected to themselves and the space.

Sensory lighting can help in the following ways:

1. Improving focus: Bright lights and colors can help the brain process information better, which can improve focus.

2. Regulating emotions: Bright lights and colors can help calm the senses and regulate emotions.

3. Promoting relaxation: Sensory lights can promote relaxation and create a calming experience.

4. Improving visual development: Color and movement in sensory lights can help with object tracking and visual development.

5. Teaching cause-and-effect reasoning: Interactive sensory lights, like those that are sensitive to touch or sound, can help teach cause-and-effect reasoning.

6. Assisting in neurological pathway development: Sensory lights can create an engaging environment that helps modulate sensory input and assist in neurological pathway development.

Help our children access the healing power of lighting through still and interactive lamps!
