My Students

My students are mixed ages 3-5 and can potentially be in my classroom for two years gaining all of the skills that they need to enter kindergarten in a low- income neighborhood in Philadelphia. They have a very hard job entering our school at the age of 3; they leave their guardian's side and enter a school schedule where they are asked to sit in a circle, share, and listen to a teacher, on top of learning math and literacy skills in 2 languages!

My school's Headstart Program is very unique in that we are bilingual; many of my children, and their families, speak Spanish.

We work hard to embrace their culture and maintain their Spanish language while still teaching the English language they need to succeed. We aspire to build up the Latina community in Philadelphia, starting with the children.

My Project

My students would love a light table in our classroom to inspire more exploration of objects and materials. A light table would add another exciting center in my classroom for students to use predict, plan, and conduct experiments with their classmates. My Pre-K students are fascinated by lights and would love to explore and play with a light table. In addition to providing us with more science-related opportunities, we could use it to trace letters/words/ and do more creative art.

In addition, we are asking for a Stem Activity kit to help provide us with more activities to go along with our favorite stories!

My students love fairy-tales, and the STEM Kits will help to provide us with opportunities to ask higher-level questions and work hands-on with the characters and story elements.

My students really deserve the best and I work hard to make new learning experiences every day. Please consider contributing to our project and adding more science-related elements to our classroom; light up our imaginations and creativity!
