This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from the southwest side of Chicago. My first grade class is always ready and excited to learn! They are active and visual learners in the classroom. They LOVE school and they are eager to learn new things.
A little bit about my students: They are artists!
They love to draw pictures, create structures, paint, dance, and sing throughout the learning day. They learn best when their body is moving!
My students also love reading books. They are starting to create words and sentences this year. It's their favorite part of the day besides math time!
My Project
The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in foundations and math. Using the whiteboards in foundations, students come to the rug with whiteboards for guided practice and to record modeled strategies. My students need the Expo markers and wipe erasers for the whiteboards. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. What becomes a problem is the fact that the markers never seem to last and erasers seem to disappear. When something goes awry, students know that they must leave the rug quietly to get a new marker, new eraser, or the last choice, pencil and paper. Even though they are great about doing this, it is distracting for many of my students who have focusing issues and they miss important instruction from either myself or other students. This is why I'm asking if you could please donate markers and erasers to my classroom!
