My Project

I currently teach in a very high poverty area in Virginia. A lot of my students have already experienced major trauma and do not have good living conditions. I try my best to have a safe and calming environment for them when they come to school. I like to turn the lights out a lot to provide a less overstimulating environment.

In our elementary school, we have harsh fluorescent lights.

There have been studies that show that using the school lights actually decreases learning. My students love when we turn out the lights and use flashlights. They are more focused, and learning is fun.

If this project gets funded, my students will be able to use the cordless lamps in their groups. I believe it will cut down on distractions and behavior. I hope you can help my students by funding this project!
