This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my class are all on Individual Education Plans (IEP). The children's needs very depending on disability. These children are eager to play, grow, and learn in a safe, and supportive learning environment.
My students are all 3-5 years old with special needs.
These needs can range from speech and language delays to physical health impairments, to genetic syndromes. Each of my students gets the benefits from a program that provides, speech and language, occupational and physical therapies on a daily basis.
My Project
All of my students in my class have disabilities. The light table will allow them to explore many concepts in a way that is easier for them to see and help with sensory output. When the light Table is placed in my science center along with the translucent blocks, sensory beads, shapes, and translucent magna blocks, all of my students will benefit from the opportunity to learn about the scientific elements of light, shadows and colors in a fun and exciting way through play.
This light table will not only allow many of my students to gain strength in visual motor and perceptual skills, but it will also allow all of my students to continue their interest and curiosity in science and the world around them.
These skills and interests are needed in order to maintain a strong academic base to move onto Kindergarten.
